Classroom Rules
First and foremost, I expect us to work as a partnership. This means that I will trust you to be a successful student as you trust me to be your teacher. I will respect you as long as you respect me!
It is expected that all students will abide by all school policies detailed in the student handbook. I will enforce these rules.
Preparedness
- You need to be prepared for class every day. This means you need to have a writing utensil, notebook, folder, textbook and Chromebook.
Disruptive Behavior
- Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in our learning environment. If you are becoming a distraction for the class or disrespectful to your peers or Ms. McDaniel, action will be taken.
Absences
If you are absent from class, you will want to go to the Absent Binder and see what you need, there will be extra copies in the Extra Copy folder.
If you turn in something after being absent, please fill out the absent slip and staple it to your work.
Late Work
Late work in Mr. Novak’s class will work as following:
-
Assignments will be given a due date and there is an expectation that work is completed on that date.
-
Assignments that are not turned in on time will still be accepted up until the day before the test. Assignments that are turned in after the due date may not be graded at that time, the assignment may be graded after the test grades. (*If you want to know what your grade is before you take a test, the only way to assure that you will know your grade is fully updated is to turn everything in on time).
-
Assignments that are not turned in on the due date will be a zero in the grade book until a grade is put in. However, when the assignment is graded, it will not be deducted for the lateness.
-
All late work needs to have a completed Late slip on it before putting it in the inbox. Work that is in the inbox late that does not have a completed slip on it, will continue to sit in the inbox.
-
After the day before the unit test, no late work is collected. All missing assignments for that unit will become a zero.
Academic Imperative Policy
-
I will continue to follow the Academic Imperative policy which is a failing grade or 3 or more missing grades will lead to a 15 minute session with me before or after school to discuss class work ethics.
-
In addition, I will assign an Academic Imperative policy if a student is continuously turning things in late and I feel it necessary to discuss work ethic with the student.
Canvas
Plagiarism
As per school policy, plagiarism is not allowed in school. If it is found that you work has been duplicated from another student or from the internet, or other source, your work will be automatically graded as a “0”.
Leaving the Classroom
If you are a student who accesses resources outside of the regular classroom, you are responsible for yourself. For instance, if you leave to take tests or do work in other classrooms (Ex. Ms. Frana, Ms. Gloede, Ms. Frey, Mr. Lannan) you need to make sure they are aware you will be coming to them and you need to go directly to their room. If you get to their room and they are not there, you MUST come back to my classroom immediately. Do not go to another room, do not sit in the hallway. You need to come back so that I am aware of where you are at all times. Should you abuse this right, take advantage of the situation or generally act in bad faith, your privileges to leave the classroom may be revoked.
Make Up Work
I do not allow make-up work for low test scores or assignments that receive a low score. Please put in 100% effort every time and there should not be a need for a “make up.”
Extra Help
I am here to help you succeed, so come and use me!!! If you are struggling and you need some assistance, come and see me. I am here at 7:15 to 3:30 most days and I am happy to have lunch in my room if you need the time to let me help you.
If you have questions on a grade you have received, you need to discuss that with the instructor prior to the end of the quarter- during the last week of the quarter, the only grade discussions should be around the final exam(s). Make sure you are inquiring about the work and the feedback rather than simply trying to adjust a number or letter grade.
