The John Polzin Legacy Fund has been established by the District to support the naming of the athletic stadium/field area in John's memory. Mr. Polzin taught at Deerfield High School for 40 years and served as the Athletic Director for 30 years until his death in June 2015. During his last few years as AD, John frequently voiced a need to remodel the athletic field stadium to improve the safety of the bleachers, add running water for proper concessions sanitation, and install bathrooms for our community members and guests.
In the fall of 2016, the Deerfield community supported a referendum to remodel the stadium with the suggestions John had championed during his years as AD. The Board committed to naming the stadium/field area in John's memory to honor his dedication to the District and, more importantly, to the students.
The architectural plans for the stadium remodel include a new press box/storage building, a new concession building with restrooms and storage, and replacement of the bleachers. In addition to these structural changes, the Board approved enhancements to the stadium design to include a gated entrance commemorating Mr. Polzin, a ticket booth, decorative fencing and a colored concrete plaza area for gathering to watch the athletic events. These enhancements cost approximately $150,000. Therefore, the financial goal for the John Polzin Legacy Fund is to raise $150,000 to pay for these enhancements allowing the Board to fund other projects in the referendum.
At this time, there are two opportunities to contribute to the John Polzin Legacy Fund. Donors may choose to purchase an engraved bleacher seat or make a donation to the Wall of Champions (see details below).
