Open Enrollment Information

Each year, parents can apply for their children to attend school in a district other than the one in which they reside. This Open Enrollment allows families the flexibility of residency while achieving the goal of a high quality education and the knowledge that their students are succeeding in their lifes goal of a diverse blend of well-developed skills. The open enrollment application period for the 2026-27 school year is February 2, 2026 - April 30, 2026 at 4:00pm.

What is Open Enrollment?

Open Enrollment is a State of Wisconsin program that allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. There is no tuition cost to parents for their children's participation in open enrollment.

Who may participate?

Wisconsin residents in grades 4K to 12 may apply to participate in open enrollment. Students in pre-kindergarten may participate only in limited circumstances; parents should call their resident school district administrator to find out if their preschool-aged children qualify.

How and when may parents apply?

The open enrollment application period for the 2026-2027 school year is from February 2 - April 30, 2026. The application period closes at 4 p.m. on April 30, 2026.

Do students currently attending our district under the Open Enrollment Program have to reapply each year?

No. Nonresident students currently attending the Deerfield Community School District under the Open Enrollment Program are not required to reapply. Please note that under certain circumstances, a student may be returned to their resident school district.

Who is responsible for transportation?

Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from school.
