K-5 General Music
At Deerfield Elementary School, our elementary music curriculum is loosely based on the textbook series, Share the Music. This series teaches skills in the areas of singing, playing instruments, improvising and composing, reading notation, listening and analyzing, and connecting cultural and historical influences. Throughout the school year, this text is supplemented with other age-appropriate repertoire and activities as well as opportunities for students to perform.
Each student in grades K-5 has music class twice per week for 30 minutes. Developing good performance skills, listening skills, and cooperative learning skills are important for success in music. Each student is expected to actively and appropriately participate in all class activities to fully understand the concepts and reinforce learning.

5th Grade Band - Optional
Students in 5th grade have the opportunity to explore a variety of instruments in September and can choose to further their instrumental studies through participation in band as an elective. Be on the lookout for more information to be sent home this fall!
6th Grade Band/Choir
In 6th grade, all students are required to participate in either band or choir; a vast majority of students choose to do both! Choir is taught by Mr. Rodrigues-Pavao, while band is taught by Mr. Petersen. Any questions about these ensembles should be directed to Mr. Rodrigues-Pavao or Mr. Petersen.
