Elementary (K-6) Art Email Phone: 608.764.5442 Greetings and welcome to the Deerfield Elementary Art studio! My name is Mark Pendl and I’m thrilled to be the art teacher for our young artists.
My teaching philosophy is centered on teaching artistic behavior (TAB) and methods giving our artists a great amount of choice in their decisions, methods, materials and subjects. Each student has art for one hour a week. In the art studio we explore diverse historical and contemporary artists, art, engineering and construction skills, care of studio materials, problem solving, and cooperation as they create, present, respond and connect through their art. Our artists also learn about themselves as they use artistic expression to form their identities and identify their strengths. As our artists progress through their elementary years, they are given more choice and autonomy offering the student to present an authentic voice and encourage the cultivation of emergent skills.
Imagination and creativity are two essential skills for success.
Your child is the artist, and this classroom is their studio.
I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Together we can make this space a place where all children can belong, accept one another, appreciate each other’s work, and most of all have fun! Remember to ask your child about what they are doing in their art studio!
Check in to the Smores Page for happenings in the Art Studio.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
