COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Algebra 2 is an extension of Algebra I with advanced work in linear and quadratic functions, polynomials, graphing, complex numbers, basic trigonometry, and logarithms. We will review the concepts taught in Algebra 1. This class meets for one semester, 83 minutes per day.
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
Sophomores, Juniors and/or Seniors that have successfully completed Algebra 1 and Geometry.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: (Bring to Class Everyday)
1. Textbook: “Algebra 2”, Holt McDougal; Larson, Boswell, Kanold and Stiff
2. Binder and Notebook: dedicated for Math ONLY
3. Writing Utensil: No Red Pens
4. Graphing Calculator (TI-83 or TI-84 Preferred)
Class Work Expectations:
All students are expected to actively participate in class. This includes answering questions when asked, staying on task, completing assignments, trying to the best of the student’s ability, seeking help when needed, ignoring other disruptions, contributing to classroom discussions, doing the bell ringer, and all else that contributes to a positive learning environment. Students will be given a weekly participation grade based on the factors stated.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Simplify, solve, and graph linear equations/inequalities.
2. Solve systems of linear equations with a variety of methods.
3. Simplify, solve, and graph higher degree functions (i.e. quadratics, polynomials...).
4. Solve exponential and logarithmic functions.
5. Apply trigonometric ratios and functions to solve real life problems.
6. Simplify and solve rational functions.
