Reading: We use the ARC Core (American Reading Company) curriculum for our universal reading instruction. Students will listen to a wide variety of stories and will learn comprehension strategies through these stories. Students will become researchers and experts on both social studies and science topics as they are integrated into our reading curriculum. Students will meet with the teacher to learn grade level standards. Students will read books at their independent level every day.
Phonemic Awareness and Phonics: Heggerty Bridge to Reading Program will teach us about sounds and the letters that represent these sounds.
Handwriting: Handwriting Without Tears is our handwriting curriculum. This program uses developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory tools and strategies to help students learn correct letter formation. Students sing songs to help remember letter and numeral formations.
Math: Illustrative Math or IM is the curriculum we will follow. It is aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Our Kindergarten areas of study include: number sense and place value, addition and subtraction, measurement and data and geometry.
