Course Description and Philosophy
-
7th Grade Health is a class designed to teach students the skills needed to exhibit a healthy lifestyle that encompasses physical, mental/emotional, and social health. It is my job to facilitate learning opportunities for students to gain competence in all the above listed areas.

Classroom Expectations
· These materials need to be brought to each class:
o Pencil
o Notebook or Loose-Leaf Paper and Chrome Book when asked
o Binder or Health Folder
o Planner
· Students will be expected to be in the room by the time the tardy bell rings.
· Students are to sit in assigned seats throughout class.
· No backpacks, food, or drinks are allowed in the classroom, only water is allowed.
· All cell phones, Ipods/MP3 players, and any other electronics are to be turned off and remain in their locker.
· Students are expected to participate in all class activities and discussions.
· To leave class for the bathroom, drink, or locker, students must have a pass.
· When students are absent, it is THEIR responsibility to find out what they have missed in class and to make up all work.
· Students are expected to be respectful of others and not disrupt the learning of any other students.
· During discussions, be open-minded, caring, honest, and always agree to disagree.
· Be respectful of school property, learning materials, and technology.
Grading Policy
· 30% Overall Grade, Formative Assessment: assignments*, journaling, class participation
· 70% Overall Grade, Summative Assessment: presentations, projects, quizzes, tests
Grading Scale
93% - 100% = A
90% - 92.9% = A-
87% - 89.9% = B+
83% - 86.9% = B
80% - 82.9% = B-
77% - 79.9% = C+
73% - 76.9% = C
70% - 72.9% = C-
64% - 69.9% = D
60% - 63.9% = D-
Cheating/Lying/Forgery: In addition to disciplinary responses, the student may receive no credit for the assignment, test, or exam.

ACADEMIC IMPERATIVE:
All students are expected to come to class prepared, actively participate and complete all assigned work on time.
1. Students with three missing grades or one failing grade on a major assignment/test in a class will be assigned a classroom detention. The purpose of the detention will be to complete the missing work and/or discuss ways to meet the academic expectations of the class.
2. The detention will be assigned by the teacher and served with the teacher.
3. The detention may take place before school, lunch, or after school and will last a minimum of 20 minutes.
4. Participation in extracurricular activities will not excuse a student from detention.
5. Student who fail to serve the detention will be given a warning and make-up date. Continued failure to serve will result in an office referral which may lead to an ISS.
6. Parent contact will be made if a second detention is given from the same classroom teacher.
7. A parent conference will be held if a third detention is given from the same classroom teacher.
