The summer months can be a both a hard time to keep playing you band instrument and/or a great time to focus on your musical development. In addition to Summer School Band Lessons and Summer Jazz Band, there are many great ways to encourage young musicians to keep playing your instruments, and to have a wonderful musical experience. Lots of Universities and private groups offer music camps. These can be for Band, Choir, Jazz Band, or even instrument specific. Usually these are one week long, but they can also be two, or even four weeks long. Below you will find a list of music camps in the Midwest, with links the camp’s contact information, cost, dates, etc. These camps offer various opportunities for students at all age levels and abilities.
Band Camps are amazing educational and social experiences. Students spend their time in intensive study of music, but they also have an unforgettable time meeting new friends from all around the state. In some camps, they also get to expand their horizons but studying other areas of music besides playing their instruments (choir, music theory, music history, jazz, etc.). Music camps offer experiences that students will remember for the rest of their life.
See the camp’s websites for more detailed information on each camp, plus applications if your are interested in attending any camps. Not all camps are the same. Some are better than others. Some cater more to middle school students, others to high school students. I am more than willing to help you make the decision about which camp would be best for your young musician. There are also application deadlines to be aware of for each camp (though if it is after the “deadline,” call the camp – the often are still taking campers..
Most programs also offer scholarships, and the Deerfield Music Boosters offer some scholarship money as well. Click here to download Music Booster Scholarship Application.
