On Friday, September 10th, Deerfield sponsored an NFL Play 60 event. This exciting night is was brought to the community as part of the Active Schools Grant in cooperation with the Deerfield School District Health and Wellness committee.
NFL Play 60 is the NFL Movement for an Active and Healthy Generation, encouraging kids to play for 60 minutes every day in order to tackle childhood obesity. Our school district joined up with schools across the nation to celebrate “Back to Football Friday.”
The Deerfield Varsity Football team played the Pardeeville Bulldogs at 7:00pm. In order to celebrate this event, we asked that students, parents, and community members arrive to the game by 5:30pm and spend 60 minutes walking the track prior to kick off. In addition, everyone was asked to wear NFL apparel, in support of their favorite professional football team along with their Deerfield Demon apparel. Those who participated in both received FREE admission to the game and raffle tickets for various prizes.
Another thrilling part of the night included event partnership with ESPN Madison and 100.5 FM. Fans looked forward to door prizes and half-time contests. In addition, Deerfield Schools was eligible for a NFL Play 60 Super Schools grant worth $10,000.00. Although we were not awarded the grant, the event was still a success with over 200 people arriving early to walk the track.
