Active School Grant Brings Back NFL Play 60
On Friday, October 14th, Deerfield held its 2nd annual NFL Play 60 event. Over 250 Deerfield students, parents, staff, and community members came wearing NFL apparel and walked the track for 60 minutes before the game. 47 individuals wore pedometers to track their steps and of those walkers, there was a total of 183, 711 steps taken which averaged almost 4 miles for each walker; that’s 18,800 calories burned! In addition, kids had the opportunity to get an additional workout and be timed as they worked their way through an obstacle course.
The Active School Grant Committee and the Health and Wellness Committee would like to thank ESPN Madison for once again donating t-shirts, bags, duct tape, head bands, and more to be given away as raffle prizes and half-time contest prizes. New this year was our partnership with Fort Health Care. Adults were given the opportunity to have their glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol checked on-site.
NFL Play 60 is the NFL Movement for an Active and Healthy Generation, encouraging kids to play for 60 minutes every day in order to tackle childhood obesity. Our school district was one of many across the nation who joined together to celebrate “Back to Football Friday.”
