Looking for a new, or different, way to study? Not sure what else to try, or stuck in a rut? Here is a list of study tips created by your fellow students (and a few from the teacher), to help you out!
- Use the flashcards Ms. Schultz gives you.
- Make flashcards on your iPod touch. There are free apps, and then you'll have all the chapters ready and in one place to study for the final exams.
- Takes notes in class, so you can review them at home.
- Create your own practice sentences at home, and see if you can translate them.
- Use the online review activities from the book's website. Some of them aren't great, but lots of them help.
- Study with music. It might help you concentrate.
- Wear the same perfume/cologne/soap when you study as when you take the test. Smells trigger memory.
- Make your flashcards with red pen on yellow paper. Seriously, you remember better!
- Use the review page at the back of the chapter to review. It tells you what the important things in the chapter were.
- Flip through the chapter and look for those yellow boxes with verb forms and things. Those are the important explanations.
- Use the review page in the book, or write out your own list of words you still don't know. Cover up the English first and see if you can remember what the Spanish is. Then, reverse, and see if you can look at the English and remember the Spanish.
- Find websites that help you practice. (There is a list on this page. Check out "links/resources" on the left.)
- Study as many different ways as you can. The more ways you see or use a word, the better you will remember it. But, if you find a way that really works, stick with it.
- Study parties! If you actually study at them, they work.
- Study a little bit more often than the night before the quiz. Don't leave it all until the last minute.
- If spelling is hard, keep writing the word over and over. Eventually, you'll get it.
- Ask questions in class when you're confused. Someone else is probably wondering about the same thing.
- Study someplace where you can concentrate, not on your bed where you might fall asleep.
- Bookmark your notes and textbook. (Highlight your notes, too, or use different colors for different types of notes.) This will make things easier to find when you study.
- Put your cell phone away/on vibrate when are studying. It'll just distract you.
- Look for main ideas and key words to help you out. Understanding everything is great, but sometimes you can memorize something or find an answer without 100%.
- Mnemonic devices--Try to come up with rhymes, songs, or random sayings to help you remember verb forms and vocabulary. If it's a good one, share with the class!
- Look for activities in the book/homework packet that we didn't do in class...and do them.
- Re-do book activities/homework that we did in class, and then check the answers to see if you did them correctly.
- Don't lose the important materials, like your book, notes, and exam review packets!
