Recap - Day 1
After leaving Deerfleld Tuesday at 5:00, we made it across the US/Canadian border with absolutely no problems around 2:00 a.m. Them, after a driver switch, we made it Niagara Falls around 6:30 a.m.. Our first stop was at a nearby hotel where kids were about to change and wash up. The weather is cold - around 30. It snowed last night abut 2-3 inches, so everything is covered with a fresh coat of snow. Unfortunately, that made for difficult walking, but everyone managed - and no one fell down. Good thing we all got lots of practice with that this winter back at home!. We then went to the Rainforest Cafe in downtown Niagara Falls for Breakfast. After breakfast, we went to Niagara Falls and visited the Table Rock House to go down into some tunnels behind Horseshoe Falls. While the falls were still moving (very impressive quantity of water!), there was lots of ice, above, below, and on the falls (which you can see in the pictures). Band members were given plenty of time to explore the falls both underground and at ground level. We then walked down-river a little ways to see the American Falls and to have lunch.
After lunch, we headed to Toronto, and arrived downtown at 3:30. The first thing we did after arriving was to go up the CN Tower, the tallest man-made structure in the world. The Tower acts as a communications array for local media. We travelled via high speed elevator up to the observation deck 1,200 feet above the ground in less than 60 seconds. Everyone had fun in the tower. The view on this clear day was over 40 miles. Plus, there was a glass floor that looks straight down 1,200 feet! Everyone was able to spend some time on the glass floor - even those with the worst vertigo! After spending about 2 hours at the tower, we headed to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. After dinner we went to, and checked in at, our hotel. The kids went swimming for a few minutes, but everyone is pretty wiped out from the long bus ride and the long day touring. Plus, we are leaving the hotel for our first performance at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, so everyone hit the sac early tonight. Stay tuned for more pictures tomorrow!!!
