United States History
8th grade social studies examines the very beginnings of American history. We start with North America’s earliest settlers, Siberian hunters moving across Beringia approximately 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. We continue on through European exploration and settlement, the American Revolution, the writing of the United States Constitution, and settlement of the West. 8th grade social studies will end with the Reconstruction of the South after the close of the Civil War.
Although the main focus will be the study of American history, the students will also complete physical and political maps of the North American continent, the United States, and Latin America. Familiarity with locations and geography of the continent is essential for understanding the movement and locations of various peoples.
