Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS)

NUMATS is a program of the Center for Talent Development (CTD) that offers above-grade-level testing (EXPLORE, PLAN, ACT, or SAT) for high-performing students in grades 3 through 9. Students register through the NUMATS website and take the tests at various testing centers in the state. If your student has scored in the 90th percentile or above in reading and/or math on a WKCE or EXPLORE test, he or she may be eligible to take a NUMATS test. (Criteria vary according to age and chosen test.)

Because we are implementing the MAP test this year for students in grades K-10, Deerfield Schools will no longer be sending out individual letters to parents and guardians regarding the NUMATS testing opportunity. The MAP test will provide all Deerfield students with an out-of-grade level testing experience if they need one and therefore will provide the district with an accurate assessment of students' abilities. Also this year, all eighth and ninth graders will be taking the EXPLORE test here at school.

Please see the website below for information on the NUMATS tests and how to register. There are some copies of the NUMATS "Family Handbook" available in the elementary school and middle/high school offices.
