Elementary Identification is Under Way!
Last spring Deerfield began formally identifying, tracking, and serving gifted and talented students as part of the Response to Intervention model already in place at the Elementary School. We believe, as is stated on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website, "Originally conceptualized as an early identification system for struggling students, Response to Intervention (RtI) holds promise for supporting the academic and behavioral success of all students, including those whose needs go beyond the core curriculum."
The identification process began with teachers submitting nomination forms to the Elementary School Building Consultation Team (BCT). During the months of September and October the team will review nominations and assemble documentation. Determinations will be made in late October after MAP testing data is analyzed, and parents/guardians will be notified in early November.
If parents wish to complete a nomination form, they should meet with Cacy Vaupel at the Elementary School or Melissa Hill at the Middle/High School to obtain the form. From there, the process is as follows.
